Low Budget Film Production Workshop (From Screenwriting to Directing) 9th Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) 06 – 12 March 2020 Making 15 Films in 10 Days

Regulations and applying eligibility:

LAFF’s workshop for production of low budget films aims to develop the skills and talents of young filmmakers in low budget yet high quality production. Moreover, it aims to fortify cultural and human bridges among rising African filmmakers and to support film coproduction under the supervision of African professional filmmakers.

Prominent Egyptian filmmakers will be leading the workshop for the 9th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival.

The workshop will provide basic introductory coursework that is important to the craft of storytelling. A great emphasis is put on the idea of developing a culture of creating innovative cinema. It focuses on the value of cultural identity in the future transformation of African cinema.

Furthermore, the workshop deals with critical aspect of empowering the individual filmmaker from his or her collective experiential culture. Select films will be screened in order to illustrate the overall philosophical base of the workshop.

Finished films of the workshop will be screened one day before the closing ceremony of the 9th edition of the festival. These films are property of Luxor African Film Festival and its Etisal Fund. The Luxor African Film Festival will be signing contracts with the accepted applicants to hold the rights of the festival in the films produced during the workshops.

Luxor African Film Festival will handle the two-way travel and accommodation and transportation for the accepted applications.

-Priority is given to applicants who hold African citizenships and are residents of African lands.

-Priority is given to applicants who are students/graduates from any accredited school/institute of cinema or freelancers in the fields of (film directing& screenplay).

-Previous experience in at least 1 COMPLETE work is required (Feature film /Documentary-Long/short movie ).

The applicant must attach links of his previous work with his application form.

-The applicant must not be over 30 years old in January 2020.

-Each applicant must have an idea for a short movie (2-5 mins.) to be filmed in (1-2days) in Luxor.

-Applicants are required to attend all scheduled field trips, lectures and film screenings. Absence and lateness will not be tolerated. Any violation to attendance rules may result in termination of applicant from the workshop. The applicant’s accommodation will be cancelled and his flight ticket will be rescheduled.

-The overall selection process is based more on demonstrated passion, experience and the ideas the applicants present.

Chosen applicants will be provided with more information, follow up instruction and rules.

Luxor African Film Festival is organized by Independent Shabab Foundation, and under the support of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Governorate of Luxor and the Syndicate of Cinematic Professions.
